1971 - Jim Gleeson's Centurion Badge1 viewsThe 1971 Australian Centurions qualifying event at the Edwards Lake Athletics Track in Reservoir proved a memorable one with centurion performances by Jim Gleeson, Clarrie Jack and Stuart Cooper. But it was Jim's performance which set the standards which have withstood the test of time. In atrocious conditions, he powered through without stopping to reach the 100 miles mark in 18:33:58 (a record that would stand until 1979) before continuing on for the full 24 hours to Sep 08, 2023

The Gordon Smith Memorial Award0 viewsWith the rapidly increasing number of ultra distance walking opportunities available in Australia, the Australian Centurion Executive decided in late 2005 to institute a new award to recognise the Best Australian Ultra Distance Walking Performance of the Year. This award is called the Gordon Smith Memorial Award, in recognition of our inaugural Centurion. The idea of this new award was floated by Centurion member Fred Brooks and the shield was purchased after donations fromSep 08, 2023

The Centurion Silver and Bronze Medals0 viewsThose walkers who complete 100 miles in our centurion qualifying event are awarded an Australian Centurion badge. For their first successful completion, the badge is numbered. For subsequent centurion efforts, they receive an unnumbered badge. Each Centurion club around the work has its own unique badge and many walkers try to collect as many as they can - but it is not an easy ask!

Steve Jordan Remembrance0 viewsWhen Steve Jordan (C58) died in late 2014, we were lucky enough to get this keep sake for our club records. As Steve was an avid fun runner, it was perhaps fitting that the shield we have was awarded to him in 2012 to recognise his feat in completing his 200th monthly Tan run with the Victorian Road Runners.

1996_Ballarat_Ekiden_Shield_2.jpg
1996 Ballarat Ekiden Relay1 views1996 was the first occasion when the Australian Centurions entered the Ballarat Ekiden Relay and Merv Lockyer had this shield made up as a remembrance of our second place finish. The race consisted of 7 laps of 6km around the lake and our team was Merv Lockyer, Tim Erickson (2 laps), Bill Dyer, Clarrie Jack, Ian Jack and Carmela Carrassi. It was a handicap based event, a format that gave a lot of old timers like us a bit more of a chance!
